All members are cordially invited to the opening of the inaugural Conceptual Photography Exhibition, “Zeitgeist”.  

Conceptual photography gives priority to the communication of a concept in both the production of the printed images and in their presentation, so you can expect something a little different from more traditional exhibitions.  The name “Zeitgeist” literally means the defining spirit or mood of a particular period, in this case the early 2020’s. 

Tracey McIrvine, Visual Arts Manager at Gasworks Art Park, will open the Exhibition. The opening will be in the MCC Gallery (plus on Zoom) on:

  • Thursday 20 October
  • 7.30pm for an 8.00pm start (8pm if joining on Zoom)

Refreshments will be provided at the Clubrooms.

If you are unable to join the opening event, the Exhibition will be open at the Clubrooms over the next two weekends, all are welcome.

End of Year 2022 Competition
Entries are now open for the Club’s annual End of Year Competition. This is a great opportunity to showcase your best Prints and PDIs in various themed sections.

All the information and the Rules are now on the website.

Entries close midnight Wednesday 2 November. All entries are to be uploaded to the competition portal and Prints are to be delivered to the MCC Clubrooms on Thursday 3 November between 7-8pm, or prior to this date by arrangement with the Competition Committee.

There will be a Gallery Exhibition on 3 and 4 December of the EOY Prints, with opening night on Thursday 1 December. If you are available to man the exhibition over the weekend, please contact the Competition Committee Chair, Ruth Woodrow at ruth.woodrow@melbournecameraclub.org.au. Sessions are from 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm.

The Awards night will be held on Thursday 8 December. Awards are made for the best work in every section and there are awards for the most successful monthly competition entrant, including Photographer of the Year for both A and B Grade.

Vacancies / Volunteer Opportunities
The Competition Committee is recruiting new members.

We are looking for regular Print and PDI competitors or members with intermediate and above experience in photography who would like to help run the monthly competitions. There are also opportunities to assist with inter club and external competitions that the Club is involved in.

Joining a committee at MCC is a fantastic way to contribute to the Club and network with other members.

What’s On Outside MCC
Streets of South Melbourne Art Project
 

Inspired by the 1949 folio “Our Street”, by South Melbourne artist, Maurie Carter, this project is a re-imagining of artistic social commentary. 
 
Carter’s images will be recreated in chalk on the  streets of South Melbourne, so that they may connect with the community, and in the spirit of Carter, promote fellowship, peace and freedom.

The artist will create one image per month for five months. The project started on 2nd October, at the corner of Montague and Dorcas, which is just one block away from MCC. So much is dependent upon the weather, but  towards the end of the first week of work for each image, things will be starting to look good, and finished over the weekend or the beginning of the second week.
