The Alan Elliott Memorial Scholarship
Background
The Melbourne Camera Club is the longest running photography club in Australia and is a friendly, dynamic, not-for-profit photography club. The clubrooms are situated in South Melbourne – the historic building is owned by the club and provides a gallery, studio and darkroom for members to use. In 2021, the club celebrated its 130th anniversary.
The club owns its facilities and provides members with a diverse range of services including a gallery, studio and a darkroom.
In keeping with the Club’s aim to assist and encourage individuals in their creative photographic pursuits, the club is introducing in 2023 a scholarship to assist young people to participate in the club’s activities and courses through the Alan Elliott Memorial Scholarship.
Alan Elliott
The Late Alan Elliott OAM (1921-2020) was a stalwart of the Melbourne Camera Club for 60 years.
By day, Alan was an industrial chemist, but outside of work, photography was the most enduring of his hobbies and passions. Alan joined the Melbourne Camera Club in the early 1960s and right up until his death in 2020, was a major contributor to the club.
Over sixty years Alan contributed to the success of the club by entering competitions, helping with the administration of the Club including a term as President in 1969, participating in exhibitions, managing the club archives, writings articles and presenting on various topics to club members.
All who knew Alan would agree that he was a kind, sincere and knowledgeable man, so it is not surprising that in his will he bequeathed a generous sum of money to the Club which is being used to offer the following scholarship.
The Alan Elliott Memorial Scholarship recognises the incredible contribution made by this special person.
