Welcome to the final week of this year’s events at MCC.

Monday night is the last Portrait Group meeting for the year – an outdoor event at Docklands, further details below. The Mid-Week Group will be visiting the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve (formerly the Elsternwick Park).

All members are warmly invited to attend the End of Year Awards and Social Event to be held this Thursday 7 December, starting at 8pm. The entries have been judged so come along to see the winning images for the Print and PDI awards.

Award presentations will be followed by our End of Year Social event.
There will be no Zoom for this event.
The Social is a self-catering event, so we ask you to please bring a plate and/or drinks. Please drop your items in the downstairs studio on arrival
So come along, bring your partner, family and friends, and help celebrate our club and another great year of photography fun!

Note: if you entered the EOY Print Competition, don’t forget to bring your satchel / bag to take your prints home at the end of the evening.

Portrait Workshop – Film Noir & Gatsby Inspired Portraits

MCC has organised two themed workshops in February 2024 for our members which will be led by Julie Powell, an experienced Professional Photographer.

Registrations will be on a first come first serve basis for MCC members after which will be opened up to non members if there are any places left.

Workshop 1: Saturday 10 February, 10am-4pm

Workshop 2: Sunday 11 February, 10am-4pm

Program Committee – Thank you

The MCC Board would like to thank the 2023 Program Team – Renee Sterling, Ken and Lesley Bretherton, Gaye Beal, and Ralph Domino – for their valued contributions in organising an interesting, varied, and well planned speaker program this year.

Renee Sterling continues in the 2024 Program Team and has been joined by 3 new members, Robin Tully (Team Lead), Russell Spence and Des Crossley.

The MCC Board this week approved a very interesting speaker program for 2024 – starting on Thursday 1 February.

We are still seeking members who would like to volunteer in the following areas:

What’s On

Portrait Group Outdoor Shoot

Monday 4 December, 6:00pm

For the last Portrait Group meeting of the year we will (weather permitting) have an outdoor shoot making use of natural light (while it is about) and portable flash (after the Sun goes down).

An excellent chance to practice portrait photography skills and grow your portfolio, the meeting is a practical photography session.so there will be ample opportunity to shoot.

Time: Meet at 6pm

Location: Meet at the North end of Webb Bridge, near Docklands Park

Mid-Week Outing

Tuesday 5 December, 10:30am

In our final outing this year we will be visiting the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve (formerly the Elsternwick Park).

Our outing will start at 10.30 am at The Elsternwick Hotel for a coffee or tea: 259 Brighton Rd, corner of Glen Huntly Rd, Elwood.

The Nature Reserve is only a short walk from the Hotel, just over Glen Huntly Road. After exploring and photographing the Reserve we shall return to the hotel for lunch at approx. 12.30 pm.

As this is our final outing for the year it would be great to see everyone there.

EOY Awards Night & Social Event

Thursday 7 December, 8:00pm

Awards are made for the best work in every section and there are awards for the most successful monthly competition entrant, including Photographer of the Year for both A and B Grade.

Following the formal award presentations there will be a social event and time to view at the EOY images in the gallery, all members and family are welcome.

SAVE THE DATE: 2024 Welcome BBQ

Thursday 1 February 2024, 6.30pm

MCC Members are invited to join the Board to welcome everyone back to the Clubrooms for our annual BBQ on the first Thursday in February. Further details to follow in the new year.

Following the BBQ will be promotion presentations by Members who were promoted from B Grade to A Grade at the End of Year Awards. Please join us at 8pm in the Gallery.

If you have any recent results you would like to share to inspire other members in their photography journey, please email the Newsletter team so the website page can be updated and shared in the Weekly News.

To have your nomination included in the Sunday newsletter please submit it before the end of the preceding Friday with details of the Competition Name, Award, Category (if any) and image title. If possible, please also send the image or a link to the image, award or gallery.
