All MCC Members and friends are invited to next weekend’s Exhibition – Displaced Ukraine, curated by MCC Member Mayya Simonova, to support Ukraine and displaced Ukrainians in Victoria, Australia.
Most of the photo materials were provided by photojournalists and photographers from Ukraine, through whose eyes we will be able to see the criminal war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine.
The star of the exhibition – Viktoria Ivleva, the only journalist in the world who has been inside the Chernobyl reactor, Ivleva received the highest World Press Photo Golden Eye award in 1991 for reporting from there. In the late 80s – early 90s, she filmed in almost all the hot spots of the disintegrating USSR. She worked in various hot spots on the planet – she captured the horrors of the genocide in Rwanda, covered the wars in Tajikistan and Nagorniy-Karabakh, and visited African countries many times with humanitarian aid. And always during trips, she not only records what was happening, but always tries to help disadvantaged people. Almost immediately after the open invasion of regular Russian troops, Viktoria came to Ukraine.
At the exhibition you also will see photographs by Volodymyr Ogloblin, Olena Dolzhenko, Kostyantyn Sowa, Marina Karavayeva and others.
You will learn about the history of the displacement of Ukrainians in our state because of two world wars and get acquainted with some stories of new displaced people fleeing the horror of the present war that has been going on for 8 long months.
All MCC Members are very welcome to attend the opening event and visit the exhibition at the MCC Clubrooms during the next two weekends.
