This week we welcome photographer Lisa Law to judge the Print Competition on Thursday night at 8pm in the Clubrooms. All members are very welcome to come along on the night to see how the competitions work and listen to the judge’s critique, a very valuable way to learn about different styles of photography.

Showcase and Learn over Coffee – Thursday nights

We would like to experiment with members who would like to share their printed images and talk to them informally over coffee on a Thursday night. This will take place after any Guest Speaker or Print Competition evening, and is separate to the competition.

This is all voluntary and it will be an open topic.

Any members are welcome to bring printed image/s (any size) for general discussion and feedback from those who are interested.

End of Year Competition

Information about the MCC end of year competition is now available on the website. For information and rules, including new rules on AI, login then go to Members / Club Competitions / End of Year Competitions or follow this link.

The entry portal for the EOY competition will be available via the entry portal soon.

Digital images of all entries (Print and PDI) to be submitted to the entry portal by Wednesday 30th October.
Print entries to be submitted to the club 7-8pm Thursday 31st October (or by arrangement before that date).

Conceptual Photography Workshop

AGM & Nominations for MCC Board Positions

Annual General Meeting – Thursday 3 October 2024

This year’s MCC AGM will be held as a Hybrid Meeting – in person at the Clubrooms and on Zoom. Further details and formal notification will be distributed to eligible MCC Members in due course.

Nominations are now open for MCC Board positions, and must be on the prescribed forms published on the MCC website. Nominations close 10pm Thursday 19 September 2024.

MCC Lightroom Course – Enrolments Open

Our next Introduction to Lightroom Basics course will held on Saturday 5 October, from 8.15am-4.30pm in the Gallery at the Clubrooms.

If you have been thinking about starting out with Lightroom Classic, this is the perfect hands-on introduction course.

Bring your own laptop: this is a one day workshop where participants follow along with an instructor using Lightroom on their laptop.

The workshop is limited to 20 participants.

Workshop Fees:

$89 for MCC members
$149 for non-members
Includes coffee, tea and refreshments for morning and afternoon breaks
BYO lunch

Photo Discussion Group

Monday 9 September, 8:00pm

The Photo Discussion Group provides a regular forum where you can discuss your passion for photography with like-minded people.

In a friendly, helpful environment, we explore a diverse range of photography topics – what makes competition winning images, creative techniques, how do judges evaluate our work, what tools we use to create the images we love, and how we may progress our skills to a higher level – to name a few.

Whatever your interests – photographic genres, image capture, image processing, printing, EDI, the latest tools, or just looking for tips – you will not be disappointed.

Digital Editing Group

Monday 16 September, 8:00pm

As the level of understanding of digital editing techniques varies enormously among members, we will aim to provide information to members at basic, intermediate and advanced levels in each meeting.

The focus is not on how to capture an image, but on what can be done with it in post-processing after downloading the images to your computer. Topics such as adjusting exposure and saturation, compositing, HDR and special effects will be just some of the areas covered. The digital editing techniques discussed will primarily be applicable to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, however these techniques are generally transferable to many other digital editing programs.

The topics for discussion will be posted closer to the event.

Mid-Week Outing

Tuesday 17 September, 10:30am – 2pm

Our 2nd outing for September is a beach walk at Brighton.

We start at 10:30am for coffee at the Brighton Beach Hotel (Bistro), 4 Esplanade, Brighton.

We will return here for lunch at 12:30pm

Getting there:

By train: Sandringham Line from Flinders Street to Brighton Beach station.

By car: Park at the Brighton Beach Hotel or at the Green Point car park (ticket via EasyPark app or credit card).
