Weekly MCC News #32 – 28-August-2022

Along with nine other camera clubs, MCC entered the 2022 10-Club Portrait Competition, the Awards night took place on Tuesday night via Zoom. MCC came a close second to Camberwell Camera Club – Congratulations to all who submitted entries. Scores are available on the MCC website – click here.

Special congratulations to Paul Dodd for winning the Best in Competition image with his Self Portrait. Congratulations to Erik Sawaya for winning Runner-up in the Two or More People Category. Congratulations also to our Highly Commended winner, Ralph Domino (Creative). Congratulations to those MCC members that received Commended awards, John Godfrey, Ian Bock, Lindsay Muirhead and Tuck Leong.

Obviously, everyone did very well for us to receive second place overall of the 10 Clubs competing.

On Tuesday night starting at 7.30pm there will be follow-on Zoom gathering where all the highly awarded photographers will be invited to talk in some detail about their image so that we can all enjoy these images further and learn from their creators. It should be a very interesting night and so please join if you can.

Note that the Thursday night Zoom details for Hybrid meetings are now included in Weekly News each week for those wishing to join Thursday night events from home, as this reduces the amount of emails we are sending out. This week’s guest speaker event will be a Hybrid meeting, please join us in the Clubrooms, or via Zoom, starting at 8pm. Refer below to the What’s On This Week section for the Zoom Meeting details.

AGM & Nominations for MCC Board Positions

Annual General Meeting – Thursday 6 October 2022

This year’s MCC AGM will be held as a Hybrid Meeting – in person at the Clubrooms and on Zoom. Further details and formal notification will be distributed to eligible MCC Members in due course.

Nominations are now open for MCC Board positions, and must be on the prescribed forms published on the MCC website. Nominations close 10pm Thursday 22 September 2022.

Volunteering Opportunities at MCC

Volunteering at MCC is a fantastic way to contribute to the Club, network with other members and give back to the Club.

MCC Maintenance Committee: Colin Booth and Kees Zonneveld are looking for Members who can volunteer their time to undertake minor maintenance tasks around the Clubrooms. If you are able to assist please contact: Colin.Booth@melbournecameraclub.org.au

Tea & Coffee: we are looking for helpers to put out the tea and coffee on Thursday nights. Even if you can help for just one Thursday a month, please get in touch.

Exhibitions Team: We are looking for a couple of Members interested in helping to plan and coordinate the Exhibition Program for the year ahead. Please get in touch with Sally Paterson if you are interested in participating.

The next Introduction to Lightroom Course will be held on Saturday 8 October, starting at 8.30am

This workshop covers the Library and Develop Modules.

Format: 1-day workshop where participants will follow along with an instructor using LR on their laptop. Workshop is limited to 20 participants. The objective is to introduce Lightroom Classic to photographers who have never used Lightroom to process images before.

This workshop has been developed by MCC in response to members indicating via survey that they would be interested in learning more about Lightroom.

Wolfhound Gallery: Allegory Exhibition

19 August – 4 September

‘An allegory is a form of fiction that represents immaterial things. It’s a narrative that seems to be about one thing but is actually about something else. It differs from a metaphor, which endeavours to equate two seemingly unrelated things. Confusingly, allegory can be regarded as a form of extended metaphor in that things described in a narrative relate to meanings that lie out the narrative itself.’
