Weekly News #30 18August2024 – Melbourne Camera Club

MCC’s Photowalk and Nature Group held a combined outing at the Melbourne Zoo today, joined by several participants from the Introduction to Photography course.

We were fortunate to have beautiful weather, making it a perfect way to assist our new members with great subjects at the zoo. We concluded the outing with 15 people staying for dinner at Naughton’s Hotel in Parkville.

News Updates

Clubrooms Update

With the majority of the painting of floors and walls now completed in the Studio and Annex, the Board is finalising plans to replace the ground floor carpet with engineered flooring in the entrance foyer and kitchen areas. This work will commence prior to Christmas.

Additionally, the Board is planning to give the Gallery a ‘facelift’ which will include a fresh coat of paint, new pin-up/backing boards, and new carpets. The office, stairwell, and upstairs kitchen areas will also be repainted and carpeted as part of the project.

These renovations are expected to take place over the summer, coinciding with the closure during the Christmas period.

Australian Photography Awards 2024

In 2024 entrants can submit across seven diverse categories which encourage the different ways we can think about photography. Photos can be made anywhere in the world, just as long as the photographs are made by a person residing within Australia or any person living outside of Australia with Australian citizenship or residency.

Alongside the prize pool, this program will provide the opportunity to take part in a major exhibition and artist talks in Naarm/Melbourne. The organisers can’t wait to see what this year’s award will bring and are excited to welcome new and returning photographers to their community.

Entries close at 11.59pm August 19, 2024 – no extended deadlines!

What’s On

Digital Editing Group

Monday 19 August, 8:00pm

As the level of understanding of digital editing techniques varies enormously among members, we will aim to provide information to members at basic, intermediate and advanced levels in each meeting.

This month we will be looking at:

Editing in Lightroom – masking, Generative remove AI tool, dodging and burning.
Photoshop – masking hair, colour matching, using a tablet for editing.

Conceptual Phtography Group Meeting

Wednesday 21 August, 7:30pm

The main topic for the night will be a review of members’ Work in Progress by Bert Hoveling. Bert is a member of the Camberwell Camera Club and The Melbourne Camera Club in Melbourne, Victoria.

Bert has judged extensively since 1995, at Club, State, National and International levels, including International Colour Awards – Masters Cup in 2007, the Sony World Photography Awards in 2008, the German Mega Circuit in 2012, and the Maitland International Salon of Photography in 2016. He was recently awarded an MAPJA Masters Level 6, from the Australian Photography Judges Association.

Bert’s reviews are always great value!

The meeting will be held at the clubrooms and also available on Zoom.

Analogue Photography Group Exhibition Opening
