Dr Reuben D Glass was a member of Melbourne Camera Club for over 40 years. Reuben was a well respected Club Member and Committee Member who was a quiet achiever and influencer and not to mention a good photographer. Rueben was very passionate about his photography and even had a purpose built darkroom at home. Up to a few months ago Rueben would make his way to the club rooms on a Thursday nights to attend the general club meetings.
Reuben was instrumental in the purchase of our current building in the 1970s while he was on the MCC committee (now known as MCC Board). Over a 5 year period many buildings were looked at, the sub committee that Reuben chaired also looked into ‘Co-ops’ for finance that would be guaranteed by the State Government. The then State Bank of Victoria (now Commonwelath Bank of Australia) was able to provide our Club with the facility that enabled our Club to purchase our present Clubroom (Freemasons building) which was in a state of abandonment. A number of members at that time invested countless hours of labour to bring this building to what it is today. After almost 12 months our building was ready for an official opening. Reuben was responsible for having the then Premier of Victoria Sir Rupert Hamer open our Clubrooms and to become our Patron. Over the years, Reuben was involved in many aspects of Club activities, recently as Program co-ordinator and also a member of The Futures Directions Committee.
