The Queenie Gatt Trophy is a perpetual award established in 1991, by the late Charles Gatt to honour members for their exceptional non-photographic contributions to the club. The award is named in memory of Queenie Gatt, Charles Gatt’s mother and the wife of Edgar Gatt, who served as the MCC President from 1994 to 1995. This year marks the 34th presentation of the award. After calling for nominations, the Board has agreed to recognise one member who has made outstanding contributions through his non-photographic work in support of the club.
Our recipient for The Queenie Gatt for 2025 is Robin Tully
Robin is actively involved in many aspects of the club.
As a Board member, he provides valuable insight into the running of the organisation. Almost single-handedly, he manages the Thursday night speakers and presenters’ program. A highlight this year was securing Tony Hewitt for the September event—an impressive achievement that showcased the club to a broad external audience. He is also an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the archives group, always willing to lend a hand whenever the team meets to work on archival projects.
Robin also coordinates both the Lightroom Course and the twice-yearly Introduction to Photography course which is a major source of the club’s revenue. This represents a significant commitment, given the diverse range of specialties and presenters he must organise.
His contributions also extend to the competition committee, where he works behind the scenes entering scores, setting up on print nights, and assisting with hanging and printing. Robin regularly participates in the club’s walks and excursions whenever he is able. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him, and he freely donates his time whenever he can.
Drawing on his experience as a chef, Robin delights members with his excellent tiramisu and frequently assists Colin whenever the BBQ is fired up. Robin carries out all this work quietly and without seeking recognition.
The Queenie Gatt Memorial Award is a wonderful opportunity for us to show our appreciation for everything he contributes. Robin, thank you for all you do for the benefit of the Melbourne Camera Club.
