Tom Putt is a Australian Photography Icon
I fell in love with photography at 13 when I borrowed my dad’s old Minolta XG-9 to photograph birds, a hobby I’d enjoyed since nine. My passion continued through university, where I began photographing sports while competing in triathlons. I traveled to the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon annually, selling my photos to local magazines. This led to a significant opportunity with Australia’s top sports agency, Sport the Library, in 1998, where I became their staff photographer. I covered the build-up to the Sydney 2000 Olympics, including test events and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, marking a high point in my career.
In 2003, I shifted focus to family photography as I started a family of my own. My business grew from my home and soon became known for dog photography, raising over $100,000 for charity through published books. After selling the business in 2014, my passion for landscape photography took center stage. Inspired by iconic photographers, I captured Australia’s breathtaking landscapes, publishing books on iconic sites like Cradle Mountain and the Milford Track. In 2018, I opened my own gallery in Mornington, Victoria, where I’ve spent the last 25 years immersed in the serenity of the Australian wilderness, my favorite place to be.
