Born in New Zealand to a Dutch boatbuilder and and American Nun, Paul has managed to put his four passports to good use. After much exploring he eventually chose to base himself in the beautiful, wild island of Tasmania in 1998.

Paul has won numerous accolades and awards for his imagery both nationally and internationally, including three times winner of the AIPP Tasmanian Professional Photographer of the Year, six times AIPP Tasmanian Landscape Photographer Photographer of the Year and two times Overseas Photographer of the Year in NZ. On an industry level he has been awarded AIPP Master of Photography and a Fellow of the NZIPP. He judges regularly at a state, national and international level and writes regularly for several magazines. He is also an industry ambassador for Asukabook in Australia and New Zealand and his fine art work is represented by One Fine Print and the Source Photographica Galleries in Melbourne and Aspen USA. He is also a proud member of the exciting and progressive fine art landscape collaborative The Light Collective.

He has had two solo exhibitions, the wilderness based ‘Touched By Light’ and the multi-genre collage-based ‘Visual Synergy’ – both in Tasmania. Some of his recent work was part of an exhibition of exquisite fine art nudes displayed at Source Photographica in Melbourne – with artists by the likes of Annie Liebowitz, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts and Man Ray. He continues to be represented by the Gallery both in Australia and Overseas. He has also exhibited in several significant group shows such as: ‘Vale of Belvoir’ Cradle Mountain Wilderness Gallery all of 2011, Head On Landscapes Prize in 2013 & 2016, Island Light Exhibition in Hobart 2015, Tarkine in Motion Exhibition, Salermo Gallery, Sydney 2015 and Long Gallery 2016 and the invitation only Add On Festival in Sydney in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The Light Collective has had three exhibitions so far of its exquisite Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre show at the Depot Gallery and Black Eye Gallery in Sydney and Maud Creative in Brisbane – stay tuned for the next ones!

With a great passion for diversity and travel, some of his projects in recent times have included: running photography workshops in the Tarkine in Tasmania and the remote Pilbarra desert region in West Australia, documentary images from the Indonesian Archepelago, , a ‘steam punk’ themed wedding in Northern California, band photography on the rooftops of New York, and being head photographer for New Zealand’s largest music festival Rhythm & Vines in Gisborne.
