Nature Outing – Sunday 24 November

The final gathering of the Nature Group for this year will involve a visit to the Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary at LaTrobe on Sunday 24 November. The sanctuary is a 30 hectare area of River Red Gum Grassy Woodland, dedicated to the conservation and restoration of native Australian flora and fauna. The Sanctuary was set up in 1967 and has been regenerated from a degraded farming landscape into a river red gum grassy woodland. We hope to photograph birds, insects and perhaps some wildlife.

We will meet in the carpark at 10am and go for a wander in the sanctuary. There are tables and chairs, and we should be able to picnic there following our morning of exploration.

News Updates

End of Year Exhibition 2024

Entries are now closed for the Club’s annual End of Year Competition, thank you to everyone who entered.

There will be a Gallery Exhibition open to the public on the weekend of 7-8 December displaying the EOY Prints, with opening night on Thursday 5 December, which will include a slideshow of the PDI entries.

Roster Assistance

We are seeking volunteers to help out at the exhibition for a 2 hour session during the exhibition weekend, please register through the link below for a time that suits you. Thank you in advance for volunteering.

Sessions are from 11am-1pm or 1pm-3pm
Saturday 7 December / Sunday 8 December

EOY Awards Night

The MCC End of Year Awards will be held on Thursday 12 December. Awards are made for the best work in every section of the End of Year Competition, and there are awards for the most successful Monthly Competition entrant, including Photographer of the Year for both A and B Grade. Following the formal award presentations there will be a social event and time to view at the EOY images in the gallery, all members and family are welcome.

Queenie Gatt Trophy

The Queenie Gatt Trophy is a perpetual trophy that was awarded by Charles Gatt in memory of his late mother Queenie Gatt. As announced at the time, the Board was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Charles Gatt in a car accident in 2021.

Nominations are now open for the Queenie Gatt Award for 2024, in special memory of Charles Gatt. The award is to honour MCC Members for their non-photographic work in support of the Club.

If you would like to nominate any Member for this award, please email President Lesley Bretherton with details including reasons why you think that person should be honoured.

What’s On

Digital Editing Group

Monday 18 November, 8:00pm

As the level of understanding of digital editing techniques varies enormously among members, we will aim to provide information to members at basic, intermediate and advanced levels in each meeting.

The topic for the last DEG meeting for 2024 is colour. There are an enormous number of tools in Lightroom and Camera Raw for adjusting colour. In this meeting, we will try to demystify those colour tools so that you can achieve the results you are looking for. Even if you are going to convert your image to monochrome, colour is important to ensure you achieve greyscale separation in your image.

Mid-Week Outing

Wednesday 20 November, 10:30am

Note that this week’s outing is on a Wednesday, rather than the normal Tuesday.

Our second November outing is to the Newport Railway Museum on Wednesday 20th Nov.

The museum is being opened for us from 11am to 12:30pm

Location: 26 Champion Rd, Newport

Cost: $15 cash

We meet for coffee at Munch N Sip, 177 Ferguson Street, Williamstown. Some of us will be there shortly after 10am.

Conceptual Photography Group

You are invited to the final meeting of the Conceptual Photography Group for 2024.

Guest Speaker: Brien Cohen and the VIGEX Awards

Thursday 21 November, 8:00pm

Each VIGEX exhibition (competition) is conducted with approval from the Australian Photographic Society, FIAP (the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographic) and the PSA (Photographic Society of America), in line with the requirements of these organisations. It is also supported by the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies (VAPS).

VIGEX has been running successfully since its inception in 1980.

Come along to the Clubrooms for the traditional annual viewing of the finalists in all genres and see some of the best photography from around the world.

In person attendance at the Clubrooms is encouraged.
