Showcase Your Creative Photography Skills at the ‘One Light Stand – Romancing the Darkness’ Exhibition

The ‘One Light Stand’ Exhibition challenges you to think outside the box and produce captivating photographs with the use of only one light source. This is an exceptional chance to engage with the Melbourne community and share your unique vision and creativity.

Why Participate?

Participating in the ‘One Light Stand’ Exhibition not only allows you to showcase your work but also encourages you to experiment with lighting techniques, honing your skills in a focused and innovative way. By limiting the light source, you will learn to manipulate shadows, highlights, and contrasts, resulting in powerful and evocative images.

Follow this link for some creative ideas for using one light source. Examples: torch, candle, iPhone torch, a street light, garden light – the possibilities are endless.

Guest Speaker Event – Thursday 4 July, 8pm

Photoshop for Beginners – Survey

There has been ongoing interest in a Photoshop for Beginners course at MCC, especially from new members attending the Introduction to Photography Course. It would also complement the many educational sessions the club already facilitates for our members.

To ascertain what potential attendees would like to know and see in the content of such a course a survey has been prepared. We would really appreciate everyone interested, no matter what your skill level, please take some time to complete and assist us in structuring this course to fit the needs of the beginner specifically.

I would like to thank Adelaide Bernard for her expertise in putting together this survey and potentially presenting this course on behalf of the MCC Education Committee.

Open House Melbourne 27-28 July

MCC will be again participating in Open House Melbourne weekend on 27-28 July.

The theme for this year’s event is RE/DISCOVER YOUR CITY.

Discovery is about the unexpected. It’s something for the curious at heart, the adventurer and the life-long-learner interested in exploring Melbourne’s most unique places and spaces.

Open House Melbourne invites you to rediscover your city – to seek out new places and to reconnect with old favourites.

Photowalk: Sunday 14 July – Lightscape at Melbourne Botanic Gardens

For this month’s outing we are keeping it local – an evening at Lightscape at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.

The immersive Melbourne hit returns to transform the Botanic Gardens after dark with a reimagined trail and brand new installations. Surround yourself with the interactive Submergence as well as the beloved Winter Cathedral and Laser Forest at Fern Gully.

Important: Buy your ticket in advance for the 5.30pm session, tickets may sell out fast. If unable to buy a ticket for the same session, buy for a later session on the same date, and we will try and get in together

What’s On

Portrait Group

Monday 1 July, 7:00pm

This is the monthly meeting of the Portrait Group – first Monday of each month. An excellent chance to practice portrait photography skills, learn about studio lighting and grow your portfolio.

The meeting is a practical photography session. We use flash lighting in a studio setting. We will have 2 sets operating and 2-3 models, so there will be ample opportunity to shoot.

If you want to shoot, please bring:

your camera (with a standard hot shoe on top for the flash trigger)
$10 for a shooters licence.

Mid-Week Group Outing

Tuesday 2 July, 10:30am

Our first outing for July is the Docklands area. We’ll start at 10.30am for coffee at Mr Collins at 747 Collins St.

We’ll finish at The Nixon Hotel, 757 Bourke St, for lunch at 12:30pm

What’s On Outside MCC

Art on the Pier Exhibition: Kerferd Rd Pier, Albert Park

Art On The Pier is currently on display at Kerferd Rd Pier at South Melbourne beach in Albert Park. It was originally launched in Queenscliff in November 2021 and since that time this unique event has grown to include the Rosebud and Kerferd Rd Piers, and has become one of the biggest outdoor art and photography exhibitions in Australia with around 200 works on display.

MCC Member Sally Paterson has some images on display at this exhibition.

Exhibition dates: 1 June to 30 September 2024.

Mosman Photography Awards 2024: CLOSES TONIGHT!

The Mosman Photography Awards are now open
and entries will close at midnight on Sunday 30th June 2024.

Judging will be completed by the end of July
with shortlisted entries announced early August.

An Awards Event will be held on the evening of
Thursday 26th September, in Archie Bear at Mosman Rowers Club, Sydney.
