Rebecca Croft presented at the MCC at Thursday’s club night event, with over 55 members attending the session, in person or virtually. Rebecca is an Australian Creative Photographer of the Year winner and showcased her Wild series of photographic prints. A number of members took up the opportunity to bring their own images for critique or help with digital compositing ideas. MCC 2024 International Women’s Day Exhibition: Opening Event

All Members, Exhibitors and friends are warmly invited to attend the Opening Event of the MCC International Women’s Day Exhibition this Thursday 7 March at 7.30pm.

The exhibition will be officially opened by Deputy Mayor of the City of Port Phillip, Louise Crawford, and then open for general viewing on Friday 8 March, and the weekend of 9 and 10 March.

Featuring more than 120 prints on display from nearly 50 exhibitors (members and non-members), the 6th MCC International Women’s Day Exhibition showcases the outstanding work being created by women in photography.

We are looking forward to our exhibitors, friends and Members joining us to celebrate International Women’s Day 2024.

Roster Request

This year the exhibition will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday over Labour Weekend. Members and exhibitors are requested to help out to welcome our visitors, we have the following 2 hour shifts available, please email Nicole Andrews with your preferred time and date if you are able to help.

Roster Shifts available:

Friday 8 March 5pm – 8pm
Saturday 9 March 1pm – 3pm
Sunday 10 March 11am – 1pm or 1pm – 3pm

Photowalk Community – PHOTO 2024 Photowalk, Melbourne CBD

In partnership with PHOTO 2024 International Photography Festival, join us for a Photowalk through the heart of Melbourne and immerse yourself in the beauty of PHOTO 2024 artworks and exhibitions. This photowalk, hosted by the Melbourne Camera Club, is a fantastic opportunity to capture the spirit of the festival through your eyes. We’ll walk through the city streets, stopping to appreciate a curated selection of festival artworks that will serve as a canvas for your street photography.

All photographers are welcome! Whether you shoot with a digital or film camera, mobile phone, Polaroid/Instax, or any other device, come join us. Meet like-minded people who share your love for photography.

MCC Workshop: Body Sculpting and Rear Curtain Sync Workshop with Julie Powell

In the first segment, delve into the art of body sculpting. Explore the interplay of light and shadows to capture intricate forms, focusing on creative lighting techniques and the artful sculpting of the human body. Transition to the second part, where you’ll explore Rear Curtain sync with studio flash.

MCC Workshop: The Art of Still Life with Julie Powell

Learn the art of creating & capturing beautiful still life images. Julie will show you how slowing down will enable you too create beautifully simple still life images, with a combination of constant controlled studio lights as well as soft natural light and creatively placing and staging objects to create a myriad of beautiful serene art.

The Set Subject for March is Landscape (Landscape, Seascape, Urbanscape). The upload deadline is midnight Wednesday 13 March.

What’s On

Portrait Group

Monday 4 March, 7pm

Monthly meeting of the Portrait Group – first Monday of each month. An excellent chance to practice portrait photography skills, learn about studio lighting and grow your portfolio.

Open to all MCC members (and visitors may attend up to 2 sessions).

Mid Week Outing

Tuesday 5 March, 10.30am
Melbourne CBD

Our first outing for March on Tue 5th March, will be something new. We are going to have a themed outing: Converging Lines – Architectural.

Normally we are encouraged to ‘fix’ converging lines. But for this outing, be bold!

A lens in the 10mm – 35mm range (FF equivalent) is useful to accentuate the converging lines.

We will meet at 10:30am at Sir Osborn café at 1 Nicholson St, East Melbourne, on the corner with Albert St.

PHOTO 2024 International Festival of Photography: 1-24 March

Taking place every two years in Melbourne and cities across regional Victoria, the PHOTO festival addresses the major issues of our time in a program of free exhibitions, outdoor displays and artist commissions, as well as awards, talks, workshops, tours and film screenings. Presenting ideas critical to contemporary photographic discourse, PHOTO encourages the public to engage with and think about photography and visual culture in new and inspiring ways.

If you have any recent results you would like to share to inspire other members in their photography journey, please email the Newsletter team so the website page can be updated and shared in the Weekly News.

To have your nomination included in the Sunday newsletter please submit it before the end of the preceding Friday with details of the Competition Name, Award, Category (if any) and image title. If possible, please also send the image or a link to the image, award or gallery.
