Weekly MCC News #01 – 29-January-2023

The Alan Elliott Scholarship is open to youths between the ages of 18 and 25 who are keen to pursue their interest in photography through attendance at the MCC’s ‘Introduction to Photography Course’ plus a year’s free membership of the club.

If you know of a deserving youth who might be interested in applying, please refer them to the website link.

The 2023 Competition series kicks off in February with the Set Subject “Self-portrait”.

The Print Competition will be held on Thursday 9 February at 8pm. No Zoom will be available. Please bring your prints along and ensure they are hanging on the Gallery wall by 8pm.

The PDI Competition will held via Zoom only on Thursday 23 February at 8pm.

The deadline for uploading your Print and PDI images for the February competitions is Wednesday 8 February (midnight).

We are really looking forward to your entries this year!

Thank you to the many members who completed the recent survey, the feedback and data provided is extremely valuable. The Board is meeting in early March to work on the club strategic plan and this information will assist in ensuring we keep the club relevant for the membership.

For those of you who indicated on the survey that you are keen to volunteer please email the Secretary with your contact details and the areas in which you stated you are wanting to volunteer.

The feedback provided indicates that members believe their membership delivers value for money. There are terrific ideas with strong preferences for particular additional courses and workshops, clarity regarding what aspects of the club operation members enjoy the most and some ideas for improvement, reassurance that the newsletter is well read, confirmation of which groups and activities are the most popular and awareness that our newer members are keen to let the board know what they expect from their membership.

The Grace Lock Group meeting time has moved to 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of the month (previously Friday nights in 2022)

Nicole Andrews is presenting her approach to macro photography at our first meeting for the year, on 8 February. There will also be time for any feedback members seek on images they bring along.

The Grace Lock group focuses on women photographers, supporting conversations on personal projects (eg. the creation of portfolios or new bodies of work), as well as the work of other women photographers. It explores our visual expression in a like-minded group in a non-competitive way. Participants are encouraged to bring along their ideas or images for discussion.

MCC is celebrating 2023 International Women’s Day by curating our fifth exhibition of photography from female photographers, to be on display 2–19 March in our clubrooms.

We are excited about the opportunity to bring together women in photography and explore our theme ‘The Female Gaze’. We encourage and invite all women photographers from the Club to exhibit your images alongside photographers from outside the club. If you are unsure about printing or matting your images, please get in touch and we can help.

• REGISTER HERE – you are invited to register your interest now to secure a place in the exhibition, and update your print titles closer to the closing date.
• Print drop off: Thursday 23 February between 6pm-8pm (or by prior arrangement with the Exhibition Coordinators)

VAPS CONVENTION & EXHIBITION 2023: COLAC

The VAPS Committee is pleased to announce next year’s annual convention will be held 16-18 June 2023 in Colac. Program and registrations will be announced at the end of February on the VAPS website.
