Artists statement
While coming out of lockdown was great for our village since it meant a huge influx of tourists which is what fuels business in Sassafras. Unfortunately there were still some consequences of the big influxI didn’t feel any need to manipulate the print other than the choice of contrast and to me, it didn’t really feel appropriate to the subject and I was happy with how the print looked. |

Artists statement
We have always had kookaburras in our garden and out of the photos I have taken of them, I like this one the most.I got quite lucky in that the angle of the overhead sun caused a shadow to be cast on the background while only lighting the kookaburra which gives an effective separation.Due to this being printed from a colour negative, rather than a black and white print I actually found that I got my preferred contrast level from an unfiltered enlargement process. |

Artists statement
I printed this at a slightly higher contrast since I wanted to emphasise the fine details of the bee and also bring a bit more of the form of the flower out of the print. Since this was lit by direct overhead sunlight,I found the stem to be distractingly dark due to being in harsh shade, so I dodged the area to ensure the darkest parts of the print were in the bee, hopefully drawing slightly more attention to it. |

I took this just as Melbourne started to warm up with spring. This scene in particular felt to me to have captured one of the nicer parts of lockdown with my family.For the print, I didn’t feel any need for any manipulation further than contrast grade and brightness and I was happy with the overall effect of the image. |
