Weekly MCC News #41 – 31-Oct-2021 – Melbourne Camera Club

We have entered the section of the roadmap where we can get back together again. We humans are a social animal and are not built for extended isolation – even if it is for our own good. It might have been tough but we did not have the devastation the Swedes, for example, had with about 15,000 dead.

MCC Clubrooms are now open!

The Board is happy to announce that in line with the Victorian Government’s easing of lockdown restrictions, the Clubrooms are now open to double-vaccinated members and visitors. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Clubrooms when you are ready. Please note that masks will need to be worn at all times inside the building. Darkroom and Studio users will need to sign a new Facilities Use Agreement before they can book these spaces – the new agreement has been emailed to registered users. Club meetings and Special Interest Group meetings can now be held in the building – although, when possible, these meetings can be streamed via Zoom. New Chairperson of the Competition Committee

The Board is pleased to confirm the appointment of Ruth Woodrow as Chairperson of the Competition Committee, replacing Lesley Bretherton who finishes up in that role at the end of this year. A big thank you to Lesley who has led the Competition Committee for the last couple of years. Lesley will continue to be part of the Committee moving forward. In addition, a huge thank you to outgoing Competition Committee members, Gary Richardson – who was the Print Steward, and Robert Fairweather – who was the PDI Steward. It is clear that the Club could not operate without the active involvement of our members, and for that we are extremely grateful. The Board would also like to welcome two new members to the Committee, Lyn McKelvie and Richard Faris, who will join Ruth Woodrow, Lesley Bretherton, Ken Bretherton, Ian Bock, Jim O’Donnell and Paul Palcsek in managing our Club Competitions into 2022.

End of Year PDI Competition

The entry portal of the End of Year Competition is now open for you to your favourite or best images as PDIs.

Closing date is the 4th November and end of year awards night will be held on Thursday 9th of December.

Set Subjects for 2022

The set subjects for 2022 are now available on the website.

Review – Erik Sawaya

MCC Member Erik Sawaya is a internationally published photographer, who among other things works with ballet companies in Australia and around the world. Thank you to Erik for stepping in to present at very short notice on 21 October, after the advertised speaker cancelled.

Delivery to the Club

During the height of Lockdown #6 a postal delivery was attempted at the club. No-one was available yo accept it of course, so it was taken to the Post Office and a card was dropped in the letterbox at the club. No-one noticed the card until the building was re-opened on Friday of last week. By that time Australia Post had returned the item to sender. If you sent something to the club and it has been returned – can you please re-send it. Also, please note that the postal address for the club is Melbourne Camera Club, PO Box 1180, South Melbourne 3205.
