DESCRIPTION:Mid-Month Excursion: Wednesday\, 21st August \nIn August we plan to visit one of Melbourne’s newest galleries: Buxton Contemporary Art Gallery\, which houses the collection of Michael Buxton. It is contemporary art ‘with a vengeance.’ Some you’ll adore\, some will irritate you\, some you’ll find perplexing\, and some you will find pointless (Anyway\, those were my reactions). But it is all highly photogenic\, and photography is permitted. We will meet at 10.30am in the Script Café/Restaurant at the front of the Melbourne Theatre Company complex on Southbank Boulevard on the corner of Dodds St.\, just behind the NGV International\, off St. Kilda Road. After morning coffee we will walk across Dodds St. to the Buxton Comtemporary. Note: This excursion will be on a Wednesday! Hope to see you there. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the nature group will be an outing to Serendip Sanctuary on Sunday 18 August. \nThe Sanctuary comprises open grassy woodlands and provides an opportunity to photograph a variety of birds and animals. \nThe group will meet in the car park at 10.30 for a short introduction to the Sanctuary before heading into the park. We will aim to break for BYO lunch at 1pm. There are barbecue facilities available if interested. \nSerendip is located at 100 Windemere Rd\, Lara. It is at the base of the You Yangs\, approximately 22km north of Geelong. Serendip is signposted from the Princes Highway.

SUMMARY:Photowalk Community - August Photowalk: Beaches and sunset\, Mornington Peninsula
DESCRIPTION:For our August photowalk we will be heading south to the Mornington Peninsula\, visiting a couple of beaches and hoping for a nice sunset! \nWe will start at Blairgowrie Marina and beach (see below for exact meeting point) with time to explore the foreshore reserve\, beach\, pier\, boats and beach boxes. \nWe will then drive onto Cape Schanck Lighthouse Reserve (25-30 min drive). On arrival meet in the carpark then explore the area including the Lighthouse tower and museum (access to this area closes at 6pm\, the wider reserve is still accessible). Follow the walking tracks to the boardwalk above the rocks and see Pulpit Rock and spectacular basalt cliffs. Note that sunset will be at 5.34pm\, it will get dark quickly after sunset\, so ensure you have your torch with you. \nCape Schanck Lighthouse provides spectacular views of the Southern Peninsula coast and Bass Strait. The lighthouse was built from dressed limestone and sandstone and has served shipping since 1859\, and is significant because the original mechanisms are still in place and continues to be a working maritime navigation aid for ships approaching Port Phillip. \nCasual drinks/dinner will follow at RACV Cape Schanck Resort\, 7-10 min drive from the Lighthouse. \nAfter dinner you may wish to return to the Cape Schanck area for Astro photography if there are clear skies after the moon has set. Note that the organised part of the day will be finishing at dinner\, Astro is an option for those who may wish to continue on their own.  \nWeather: as the location is weather dependent\, check the Facebook and Meetup events\, and MCC website (What’s On calendar photowalk event) for updates on the day if the weather is expected to be particularly rainy or stormy.
