DESCRIPTION:The Digital Editing Group meeting scheduled for 19 September has been postponed due to other significant events occurring at the same time. \nThe program scheduled for September will now occur at the October meeting. \n  \n  \n  \nFor the October meeting we have the following organised: \nFor those new to Lightroom\, demystifying some of the tools you will use; \nIntermediate: How to combine exposure bracketing and focus stacking to generate a single image (Lightroom and Photoshop); and \nAdvanced photoshop: What is “Blend if” and how is it used. \nFinally if time permits\, we can look at start to finish processing by the professionals. \n  \n  \nDigital Editing group meets on the Third Monday of the month from February to November.  The aim of the group is to help the members of the group to improve our ability to edit images digitally regardless of the end requirement – be it for Print Comp\, PDI Comp\, AV\, slideshows\, books or any other use. \nMost meetings with be broken into topics suitable for beginners\, intermediate or advanced users. \nThere is a range of software available but our focus will be on Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. \nWe also happy to look at processing issues you might have – email your image to digital.editing@melbournecameraclub.org.au a few days before an upcoming meeting. \n

SUMMARY:Club Night: Ruth Woodrow\, "Lockdown Imagery" – Clubrooms & Hybrid Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The story this picture tells is both deeply personal and also needed telling. Each image represents a happy memory of time spent walking my neighbourhood with my husband\, Paul\, over a period of three months\, from March to June 2020.\nIt is a record of my experience of a point in time that will be marked down in history as a societal turning point. \nWhen I found out that I would be working from home during lockdown\, I decided that I was going to go for a walk every day for both my mental and physical wellbeing. During my walks I started noticing the various signs and markings on the ground. The lack of people and traffic was making me see many things as if for the first time. Photographing my feet with these signs and markings seemed to be a way that I could capture my experience of lockdown and isolation. Before long\, I noticed that I had hundreds of these images and it seemed like a good idea to combine them into a sort of collage. \nTaking inspiration from the rainbow\, I thought I could arrange the images from red through to violet\, but what I discovered was that I didn’t have enough magentas and violets\, but I had heaps of grey\, so my collage ended up fading from the rainbow through to grey\, which talks to me of the gloss and excitement of early lockdown fading into what we now think of as the new normal. \n \nThis image is a product of our daily walks during lockdown and I’d like to thank my husband Paul for accompanying me day after day after day on our walks and insisting that I take a camera with me. He “donated” his Leica Q2 to me as it was so much lighter than my Canon. Needless to say\, it hasn’t left me since. \nThis image tells a powerful story of lockdown in Melbourne in 2020. This seat is at the Victorian College of the Arts\, normally a bustling vibrant locale full of arts students dressed like arts students. \nDuring our lockdown walks we visited this area quite frequently and to say that it was the opposite of what it was like before lockdown is an understatement. There was no-one there\, it was like a ghost town. \nThe government decided that playgrounds and community facilities – and peculiarly\, park benches and seats were off limits and needed to be taped off. What attracted me to this scene was the colour of the seat and wall and the jarring impact of the red and white tape. It was as if art itself was forbidden (which surprisingly almost turned out to be the case). \n  \nPlease join us in person at the Clubrooms or on Zoom for this event. \nZoom details will be emailed to members a couple of days before the event. \n

DESCRIPTION:This is the monthly meeting of the Portrait Group – first Monday of each month. An excellent chance to practice portrait photography skills and grow your portfolio.  \nThe meeting is a practical photography session. We use flash lighting in a studio setting. We will have 2 sets operating and 2-3 models\, so there will be ample opportunity to shoot. \nOpen to all MCC members (and visitors may attend up to 2 sessions). \nIf you want to shoot\, please bring: \n\nyour camera (with a standard hot shoe on top for the flash trigger)\n$10 for a shooters licence.\n\nPlease come along at 7pm to help set up. We start shooting at 8pm\, and stop when the models say they’ve had enough (typically 2-3 hours). \nPlease remember that after the shoot you are required to send some photos back for the models. DESCRIPTION:Thank you everyone for submitting your images for selection to represent the Melbourne Camera Club in the 2022 Club Portrait Competition being run by the Camberwell Camera Club. \nA panel of four curators have selected the 21 images (out of over 140 images submitted by you)\, which have now been submitted to the competition. \nThe judging and awards night will be held on Tuesday 23 August 2022 commencing at 7:30pm via Zoom. \nThe following week on Tuesday 30 August 2022 at 7:30pm\, there will be a further Zoom gathering\, where photographers of winning and various award images will be invited to discuss their image in some detail. \nZoom details will be made available closer to the date. \nAny queries please contact Competition Committee: email: mcc-compcommittee@melbournecameraclub.org.au \n

DESCRIPTION:Monthly club meeting \n\nPortrait session: Shooting studio portraits on film\nBy Matt Smith \nThis will be the format for the night \n\nQuick overview of using off camera flash for portraits\nShow how to position and meter a simple two light set up\nTest the setup and settings with a tethered digital camera so participants can see what the lighting will look like\nTest everyone’s camera will fire the trigger (Best ask participants not to load film until they’ve tested their camera with the sync cable and flash trigger)\nBuddy up in pairs and depending on how many participants we have\, allocate a time for each pair to shoot each other. I’ll be on hand to provide posing advice\nBit of a debrief about how participants found the experience\n\n\nInstructions for participants before attending:\n\n\nCan use any 35mm or medium format film camera with manual settings (but no point and shoots) providing it has an X sync\nPreferably shoot iso 200 film just for consistency of settings across the group\nDon’t load film until we’ve tested their camera will fire the lights!!\n\n\nMatt will bring the lights\, trigger\, sync cable and an adapter that should enable the trigger to attach to any cold or hot shoe. If their camera doesn’t have a shoe (like my Rolleiflex) will just have to hold the trigger!  Will use the club’s stands and soft boxes.\n\nIf we have lots of problems with peoples cameras not firing the flash\, we can have a plan B set up just using the modelling lights as a ‘constant’ light.\n\n\nShow and tell\nDepending on time the normal show and tell will be after the portrait session.
