DESCRIPTION:As the level of understanding of digital editing techniques varies enormously among members\, we will aim to provide information to members at basic\, intermediate and advanced levels in each meeting. \nThe focus is not on how to capture an image\, but on what can be done with it in post-processing after downloading the images to your computer. Topics such as adjusting exposure and saturation\, compositing\, HDR and special effects will be just some of the areas covered. The digital editing techniques discussed will primarily be applicable to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop\, however these techniques are generally transferable to many other digital editing programmes. \nTopics for the nights’ discussions are: \nWhat’s new in Lightroom and Photoshop including a detailed look at the new Denoise feature; \nTransforming autumn colours in Photoshop; \nand stitching drone images with PTGui and Photoshop/Lightroom.

DESCRIPTION:Tracey McIrvine \nVisual Arts Manager – Gasworks Arts Park Inc. \nTracey will address the overall theme ”how photography as an artistic medium fits into the artwork now” and about her journey as an Arts Manager.  For over 20 years Tracey has focused on three major goals in the arts\, with the majority of this time focussed on artists and groups in the City of Port Phillip.  Tracey’s first goal was to develop the community profile of a large\, commercial art gallery while managing the business to achieve creative and financial goals for all concerned.   The second is to continually impart crucial professional development skills and ‘The Mechanics of Realism’ to arts practitioners.   The third goal is to assiduously communicate the benefits of engaging with the arts to the community at large. \nTracy said that she likes to think that (based on feedback!) she is well regarded for the depth of practical knowledge that she shares in a direct\, warm and humorous style.

An excellent chance to practice portrait photography skills\, learn about studio lighting and grow your portfolio. \nThe meeting is a practical photography session. We use flash lighting in a studio setting. We will have 2 sets operating and 2-3 models\, so there will be ample opportunity to shoot. \nOpen to all MCC members (and visitors may attend up to 2 sessions). \nIf you want to shoot\, please bring: \n\nyour camera (with a standard hot shoe on top for the flash trigger)\n$10 for a shooters licence.\n\nPlease come along at 7pm to help set up. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our April photowalk\, we will be doing a sunset shoot in Port Melbourne.\n \nWe will meet outside Mr Hobson cafe (9 Waterfront Place\, Port Melbourne) and make our way to Princes Pier for sunset (6.13pm). There will be time for golden hour and blue hour photography from either Princes Pier or along the nearby beach area.\n \nAll visitors\, friends and members of the Melbourne Camera Club are welcome.\n \nCasual drinks/dinner will follow at a local pub (optional). \n\n\n\nWhat to bring:\n\nTripod for long exposures\nND filter/s (optional) \nSpare battery as long exposures can drain batteries quickly\nWarm clothing depending on the weather forecast\n\n\n\n\n\nDate: Sunday 2 April \nTime: 4.45pm for 5.00pm start\nMeeting location: Outside Mr Hobson cafe (9 Waterfront Place\, Port Melbourne) \nPublic transport: Tram 109 is a very short walk to the meeting point\nDuration: 2 hours\, plus dinner at local pub\nNote that the Grand Prix will be on in Albert Park\, so suggest to avoid that area as some roads will be closed. \n\nIMPORTANT please RSVP by email to book reserve a seat at dinner:  photowalks@melbournecameraclub.org.au \n \nAll visitors\, friends and members of MCC are welcome.\n

SUMMARY:Guest Speaker: Jesse Marlow- Street Photographer and Leica Ambassador
DESCRIPTION:Jesse Marlow is a Melbourne-based and internationally recognised photographer. Over the last 25 years he has worked for a range of local and international editorial and commercial clients. His works are held in public and private collections across Australia and the world\, including the National Gallery of Victoria and the Australian Parliament House Collection. In 2003\, he published his first book of photographs: Centre Bounce: Football from Australia’s Heart\, (Hardie Grant Books). In 2005 he published a book of street photographs titled Wounded\, (Sling Shot Press). In 2006 he was selected to participate in the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam. In 2010 he was one of 45 street photographers from around the world profiled in the book Street Photography Now (Thames & Hudson). In 2011 he was the inaugural winner of the International Street Photography Prize. In 2012\, Marlow won the MGA Bowness Prize\, one of Australia’s leading Photography prizes. \nIn 2014\, Marlow published his third monograph – ‘Don’t Just Tell Them\, Show Them’. In 2021\, Marlow published his fourth monograph ‘Second City’. With a highly developed eye for colour\, pattern and subtle humour\, Jesse is constantly searching for an ambiguity that lies just below the surface. Each image in his books is a perfect compositional gem full of delight. These images showcase Marlow’s ability to find wonder amidst the banality of everyday life. \nHis current reprinted book\, ‘Don’t Just Tell Them\, Show Them’ will be available for sale on the night at a discounted price for club members. \nJesse is a member of both the international street photographers’ collective\, UP Photographers and Institute Artists and is a Leica Ambassador. \nJesse will talk about his street photography and aspects of his career.
