DESCRIPTION:As the level of understanding of digital editing techniques varies enormously among members\, we will aim to provide information to members at basic\, intermediate and advanced levels in each meeting. \nThe focus is not on how to capture an image\, but on what can be done with it in post-processing after downloading the images to your computer. Topics such as adjusting exposure and saturation\, compositing\, HDR and special effects will be just some of the areas covered. The digital editing techniques discussed will primarily be applicable to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop\, however these techniques are generally transferable to many other digital editing programmes. \nTopics for the nights’ discussions will be making photobooks. \nThe club annually holds a photobook competition. Ian Bock coordinates the competition and is very well versed in the making of photobooks. Tonight Ian will share some of that expertise using the software of Photobookshop.com.au. While this software is proprietary to this company\, other photobook printers use similar programs.

DESCRIPTION:Santina Velo has booked the downstairs studio and darkroom and will take us through her experimentation with alternative processes. Her cyanotype and cyanolumens in the IWD exhibition were very beautiful and had us all intrigued. Santina will conduct a hands on workshop including her learnings and workflow. This is sure to get our creative juices going. \nSee some samples of Santina’s cyanotypes here \nThe Grace Lock Group focuses on women photographers\, supporting conversations on personal projects (eg. the creation of portfolios or new bodies of work)\, as well as the work of other women photographers. It explores our visual expression in a like-minded group in a non-competitive way. Participants are encouraged to bring along their idea or images for discussion.

DESCRIPTION:This is the monthly meeting of the Portrait Group – first Monday of each month. An excellent chance to practice portrait photography skills\, learn about studio lighting and grow your portfolio. \nThe meeting is a practical photography session. We use flash lighting in a studio setting. We will have 2 sets operating and 2-3 models\, so there will be ample opportunity to shoot. \nOpen to all MCC members (and visitors may attend up to 2 sessions). \nIf you want to shoot\, please bring: \n\nyour camera (with a standard hot shoe on top for the flash trigger)\n$10 for a shooters licence.\n\nPlease come along at 7pm to help set up. DESCRIPTION:Renée Sterling on Deadpan Photography \nDeadpan Photography is deceitfully easy.  The visual rules associated with it are easy to master: wide angle\, desaturated colour\, etc.  But what requires more effort is figuring out how to use the deadpan aesthetic as a tool to express something definitive and personal. We will look at well-regarded deadpan photographs and see how the aesthetic is used\, and\, more importantly\, why. \nRussell Spence on Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) \nIntentional Camera Movement\, another tool\, style\, method\, for you to create images with impact. In his presentation\, Russell will show some examples from the art and photography world\, and talk about how to achieve these looks\, in camera. ICM is an abstract style of photography for photographers seeking fresh ways to be creative.

SUMMARY:Guest Speaker - Steve Day\, Photographer of the Year\, will present on Fine Art Architecture Photography
DESCRIPTION:Presentation: Fine Art Architecture Photography \nSteve Day is a Melbourne based self-taught fine art photographer who is recognised for his striking\nblack and white architectural photography. \nRecently\, Steve was awarded Australian Photography Magazine Black and White Photographer of the\nYear 2022. The judging panel described him as demonstrating a wonderful understanding of shape\,\nform and texture\, along with a keen eye for concealing and revealing details. \nSteve expertly applies tone and shade to illustrate the buildings in the right places to create maximum\nimpact and alleviate any distractions. He also uses long exposure techniques to conceive his vision of\nmoody and minimalist images that emphasise the form and structure whilst highlighting the features of\narchitecture and cityscapes. His images depict isolation and a sense of solitude and perhaps suggest a\nyearning for the inner self to be alone and at peace. \nSteve’s photography has gained numerous major international awards that include the MonoVisions\nPhotography Awards\, ND Awards\, Prix de la Photographie Paris\, Visions International Photo Awards\,\nand the Centre for Contemporary Photography Salon Melbourne. \nSteve’s work has been published in the B&W Minimalism Magazine\, Chiiz Magazine\, Long Exposure\nMagazine\, and Eye Photo Magazine. Furthermore\, his work has been exhibited in Melbourne\,\nHyderabad\, New York\, Athens\, and Paris. \nSteve is also represented by influx Gallery Notting Hill\, UK\, Artoui in Munich Germany and bluethumb.\nJoin Steve as he demonstrates his workflow process and learn how he creates his award-winning\narchitectural images\, that he is so passionate about.
