With a background as a pilot\, a passion for photography and a desire to push the boundaries of conventional aerial imagery\, Peter is always seeking ways to capture fascinating and often mesmerising images. \nPeter’s work has been recognised for its fresh and imaginative style and has been acknowledged by his peers for his originality and distinctive style. \nThe LensCulture Review of January 2023 commented that: \n“The aesthetics are remarkable. And I love how I get lost in the shapes that you are eliciting and then can find some footing/grounding in what I ‘know’ or understand. Because your photos elicit so many experiences\, it is very effective”. \nWhether shooting cityscapes\, seascapes or rural areas\, Peter’s goal is to showcase the world from a new an exciting perspective. He continues to make stunning aerial images that cause you to pause\, consider and reflect on these remarkable images. \nPeter’s recent exhibition at the Gasworks Arts Park was a collection of images taken at Weering\, Lake Tyrell\, Mistic Park\, Anderson Inlet and Corio in Victoria.

DESCRIPTION:As the level of understanding of digital editing techniques varies enormously among members\, we will aim to provide information to members at basic\, intermediate and advanced levels in each meeting. \nThe focus is not on how to capture an image\, but on what can be done with it in post-processing after downloading the images to your computer. Topics such as adjusting exposure and saturation\, compositing\, HDR and special effects will be just some of the areas covered. The digital editing techniques discussed will primarily be applicable to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop\, however these techniques are generally transferable to many other digital editing programmes. \nThis month we will have a look at tools and techniques in Lightroom and Photoshop for examining and rectifying the tonal composition of your images.

DESCRIPTION:For our September Photowalk\, we will be heading to Ballarat International Foto Biennale for the day – note that this photowalk is being held on Saturday\, and not our regular Sunday outing.\n \nThe Ballarat International Foto Biennale was founded in 2005 and attracts significant International and Australian photographers as one of Australia’s pre-eminent photographic festivals. Held every two years it showcases work from domestic and international artists that is new\, previously unseen in Australia or contextualised afresh; the Open Program fosters the development of new artists. \n \nWe are planning to catch the V/Line train from Southern Cross Station – although for those who wish to drive\, you can meet the main group on arrival at Ballarat Railway Station. We will spend the day checking out some of the photography exhibitions in Ballarat and there will be some photography opportunities around town while walking between the exhibitions. \nFESTIVAL TICKETS: Purchase a Festival Pass which includes entry to the Core Program exhibitions throughout central Ballarat (no cost to view the Open Program exhibitions). DESCRIPTION:Conjuring Athena (working title) is a series of portraits created using the wet plate collodion photographic process for exhibition and publication to commemorate the experiences of Australian Veterans who served in the Women’s Royal Australian Army Corps. The images are created collaboratively; the Veterans have the opportunity to share their stories in their own words and then create a portrait with the photographer. The goal is to preserve a record of the personal histories of these pioneering Veterans and to connect them with contemporary Australian community.

DESCRIPTION:This is the monthly meeting of the Portrait Group – first Monday of each month. An excellent chance to practice portrait photography skills\, learn about studio lighting and grow your portfolio. \nThe meeting is a practical photography session. We use flash lighting in a studio setting. We will have 2 sets operating and 2-3 models\, so there will be ample opportunity to shoot. \nOpen to all MCC members (and visitors may attend up to 2 sessions). \nIf you want to shoot\, please bring: \n\nyour camera (with a standard hot shoe on top for the flash trigger)\n$10 for a shooters licence.\n\nPlease come along at 7pm to help set up. We start shooting at 8pm\, and stop when the models say they’ve had enough (typically 2-3 hours). \nPlease remember that after the shoot you are required to send some photos back for the models. DESCRIPTION:As the level of understanding of digital editing techniques varies enormously among members\, we will aim to provide information to members at basic\, intermediate and advanced levels in each meeting. \nThe focus is not on how to capture an image\, but on what can be done with it in post-processing after downloading the images to your computer. Topics such as adjusting exposure and saturation\, compositing\, HDR and special effects will be just some of the areas covered. The digital editing techniques discussed will primarily be applicable to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop\, however these techniques are generally transferable to many other digital editing programmes. \nTopics for the nights’ discussions are: \nLightroom: Applying the right amount of contrast. \nPhotoshop Basics: Using the updated gradient tool. \nPhotoshop advanced: The Orton Effect.

SUMMARY:Guest Speaker: Ruth Hellema will discuss her highly stylised architecture photography.
DESCRIPTION:Ruth seeks to capture and highlight elements of the ordinary world that surrounds her then to interpret these elements visually and artistically\, as seen through her eyes and camera’s lens. \nRuth took up photography in 2005 when she bought her first SLR camera. Because she was living in Spain\, her early work was of European streets and architecture. On her return to Australia in 2013 she produced a series of fine art flower photographs reflecting her connection with the natural environment. Recently she has returned to the architecture theme from a minimalist perspective where she seeks to capture and emphasise the visual aesthetics of building facades: colour\, contrast\, shape\, lines\, and texture. Ruth received an honourable mention in the architecture category of the Minimalist Photography Awards 2022 and was featured on the front cover of the ‘20 ARTISTS’ magazine 2022. Ruth’s talk will feature her minimalist architecture photography.
