SUMMARY:Very Special Guest - Danielle Watson - Extraordinary Landscape Photographer and Educator
DESCRIPTION:From www.daniellewatson.com.au\nSo\, What’s My Story?\nWhere did it all start? Maybe you didn’t ask\, but let’s say you did. \nBelieve it or not\, I began as a professional tennis coach. Yep\, my journey into photography actually began with a break from two decades in sports science and biomechanics—a world of endless travel and 50-week work years. After coaching and running around tennis courts worldwide\, I was ready for something new. \nEnter: a DSLR camera. I figured\, “The best camera takes the best photos… right?” So I picked one up from Michael’s Camera Store in Melbourne and signed up for a free intro course. After the class\, I snapped a few shots of my 8-week-old kelpie pup\, posted them\, and—surprise! —my photos went viral and even landed in the Herald Weekly Times. I thought\, “Maybe this photography gig isn’t so hard!” I was hooked\, enrolling in every course I could find at Michael’s\, and even joined a landscape tour along the Great Ocean Road. That was it. Landscape photography had my full attention.

SUMMARY:Member Presentation by Greg Thomas and Andrew Grieg
DESCRIPTION:Tonight\, we’re pleased to welcome Greg Thomas\, the leader of the MCC Lighting Photography Group. Greg will guide us through the MCC studio\, showcasing the equipment available to all club members. As we know\, photography is all about light—whether you find it or it finds you\, understanding how to work with it is key. \nWe’re also delighted to welcome MCC member Andrew Greig\, whose award-winning portraiture and exceptional studio skills have earned him high praise from judges and peers alike. \nTonight\, Andrew aims to inspire aspiring portrait photographers by demonstrating how to achieve professional results using accessible and affordable lighting. He’ll walk us through the practical use of different light sources—strobes\, speedlights\, and modelling lights—highlighting how each can be used creatively to visualize the outcome before pressing the shutter. \nPlease come along and show your support to these outstanding members of the club

SUMMARY:Digital Editing Group
DESCRIPTION:As the level of understanding of digital editing techniques varies enormously among members\, we will aim to provide information to members at basic\, intermediate and advanced levels in each meeting. \nThe focus is not on how to capture an image\, but on what can be done with it in post-processing after downloading the images to your computer. Topics such as adjusting exposure and saturation\, compositing\, HDR and special effects will be just some of the areas covered. The digital editing techniques discussed will primarily be applicable to Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop\, however these techniques are generally transferable to many other digital editing programs. \nThe topics for discussion this meeting are: \n\nAlternatives to the Adobe Photography bundle;\nLightroom workflow and tools;\nSome basics of Photoshop – layers and colour channels; and\nA review of the May/June updates to Photoshop.

SUMMARY:*Cancelled* Nature Group Outing
DESCRIPTION:July Outing: Woodlands Historic Park \nJoin us this July as we explore Woodlands Historic Park\, a beautiful winter woodland just outside Melbourne. The open grassy plains and red gum bushland are home to eastern grey kangaroos and occasional echidnas\, as well as a variety of birdlife including red-rumped parrots\, eastern rosellas\, yellow-rumped thornbills\, whistling kites\, and the striking scarlet and flame robins\, often seen during the cooler months. \nWhile insect activity is low in winter\, macro photographers may still find subjects such as dormant insects\, mosses\, lichens\, and tiny fungi. Seasonal fungi like Mycenas\, earth stars\, puffballs\, and bracket fungi can often be spotted along fallen logs and shaded areas \nPlease remember to bring a chair for lunch and paths may be uneven in places\, so sturdy footwear such as sneakers or hiking shoes is recommended. More information will be given in the Nature Group Newsletter on meeting. Please ensure you are signed up to the mailout which will be out shortly. \nA rewarding location for those seeking the quiet beauty of nature in winter. \nJulie and Jo
